101 things to do in the last days of pregnancy: feed on the Word of God!!

It is never too late to get stuck in and feed on the word of The Living God regardless of the stage of your pregnancy. Firstly there is no substitute for the Bible and of course its good to get in there and communicate with papa God, to meditate on His word and to just be surrounded by His word.

The Bible offered me (and still does) a secret place of rest where i could lay it all down at the feet of The Lord during both my pregnancies. I can testify that God directed me to various scriptures which i used to confess it out loud over myself and both babies. The Lord also directed me in other areas such as choosing the right names etc.. God is amazing the way He cared and cares for me and the little things.

There are many devotionals available these days are specifically catered for pregnant ladies (really we are too spoilt these days). I did not use a devotional but had a fantastic book recommended to me by a sister from church. She recommended a supernatural childbirth by Ms Jackie Mize which I found both enjoyable and practical so i would happily recommend it and the rest of their pregnancy books to any mum to be.

In the news: mothers to get paid £200 to breastfeed

Yes you heard it right, as 2014 mothers in the Uk will be offered £200 in shopping vouchers as an incentive for breastfeeding. The scheme is part of an initiative designed to help mothers breastfeed for as long as possible and ideally up to 6 months. Mothers will be monitored by their caregivers in order to verify that they are indeed nursing. The scheme is first being introduced in Sheffield due to its low nursing rate. According to  a report by the BBC, ‘just one in four mothers are breastfeeding by the sixth to eight week mark compared with a national average of 55%’

Wow is all i can say as i am not sure how they will be able to monitor this because if somebody wants to pretend to nurse they can do that and of course how will they know once mums have gone home that they are still nursing? i think its a great idea to encourage nursing but at the same time it has got to come from a mother’s heart and not be done out of compulsion. Also society’s views on nursing in general has to change as i have heard some woman do not nurse because they view that part of their body as a sexual object because lets face it there is so much nudity in media and you only have to buy The Sun to find it staring at you in page 3. I personally count it as a blessing to be able to nurture a baby, it is such a beautiful thing and of course lets not forget all the health  benefits for mum and baby and so its alarming to see how the government can try to put a price on it…well enough of what i think, Lets just wait and see how it is going to play out….

In the news:Tiger parents lead happier and less stressful lives

ImageA research published in the social psychological and personality science organisation show that parents who put their children’s needs before their own tend to lead happier lives. They argue that the ‘tiger mum’ who is usually perceived as know the one who makes sure they eat well, sleep well, study hard and take up lots of extra curricular activities tends to be happier than laid back mums. The journal concluded there is a huge correlation of emotional and financial investment and happiness and in their own words ,’we reap what we sow with our children’.  I don’t really like to put myself in categories so i don’t know if i am a helicopter mum or a tiger mum perhaps i am somewhere in the middle.

This is a very interesting study as a few scriptures come into mind. Matthew 7:16 ‘by their fruits you shall know them’ and in some respects children are their parent’s fruit and it is such an amazing privilege we have as parents to be able to mould our children. I Pray that God will help us all plant the right seeds into our children’s lives so that we can see the right fruit and yes reap the rewards why not.

In the news:Mother left fuming after being told to stop breastfeeding in the swimming pool

ImageMiss Howes from Kent was swimming with her 8 months old baby girl when the little baby grew restless. According to daily mail, Miss Howes started feeing her baby but was told by staff to stop as it was deemed offensive. Ms Howes then proceeded to locate to the side of the pool to which she was told it would be best to finish feeding her baby in the changing room. She is now demanding an apology from the leisure centre and quite rightly so they owe her one just for blowing things out of proportion.

This is shocking and it should not even have reach the headlines because society in itself has become so perverted. Even the Bible tells us what is good will become bad and what is bad will become good. Sometimes just walking down the street you see all  types of strange  things which because of rules in laws this has become good and yet something as natural as nursing has become ‘offensive’. What some people don’t understand is that babies don’t understand that mum is out and about and they cannot just feed whenever wherever because people get offended. Also you cannot tell a baby to wait until you get home because he or she will look at you as if you have lost the plot. There are many ways one can nurse in pubic without feeling embarrassed. I have a few nursing tops and crossover style tops which make the job so much easier and i never leave the house without a blanket and a burp cloth in case i need to cover up while out and about. My 2nd princess is 6 months old and just getting the hang of solid food so nursing is still a big deal for her so i totally sympathise with this lady.

Lets hope they make it easier for mum’s to nurse in public, if not then perhaps everybody should be banned from eating in public lol.
