It’s a blessing and slightly shocking that we are already in the new year. When i younger i thought time seem to drag on . I would wait and wait just to turn a year older:). Since hitting over 21 it seems time doesn’t drag on anymore but rather it speeds on lol. This brings me to my very awesome new years eve. We had planned as we do every year to go to the watch night at church. I just love going to the new years service as i am always eager to hear and maybe get a confirmation about the coming time. Last night we just could not go as my youngest girl is recovering from a cold plus i worked early in the morning so i was exhausted. To some people modern technology is a distraction but for me i believe its a blessing (if used in moderation)as we still managed to watch the watchnight ( ha thats funny). Yes it was as simple as browsing and casting straight to the TV. My family and i absolutely enjoyed the service. The music was amazing and most surprisingly a lady by the name of Rozalla who sang the famous 90s dance anthem, ‘everybody’s freeeeeeeee to feel good’ performed. It was huge surprise for me but fantastic all the same. Muyiwa&Riversongz was one of my highlights for the evening. Their music touches the soul and from the moment they stepped on that stage they ushered in a beautiful atmosphere and i just wanted to keep worshipping with them but like Mr Muyiwa jokingly sad, ‘if you don’t overstay your welcome on the stage, you will definitely be invited back’.
Pastor Colin’s message was much needed for this season. I was hungry and thirsty for a word. Sometimes all we need to hear is that one word and it was a beautiful and touching message and i shall carry it with me in 2019 and beyond. Pastor Colin preached about God’s timing and everything how it is all in the Lord’s hands. He encouraged us now more than ever to go up higher and higher in our walk with God starting back to the basics of the secret place (our private devotions ). He said, ‘as you come up higher, your going to see me and hear me’. He also elaborated further by saying that when we worship God we carry the presence of God with us……..Praise God🙌🏾. It was a brief but powerful message and before we knew it was the countdown as everybody cheered and it was already 2019.
Children make me laugh eh , so after all this blessed moments we caught a glimpse of the news and what do the girls tell me? They say we should have gone to the London eye instead to see the fireworks. I am not sure i am ready to brave the cold, the dark and a huge crowd plus kids in tow on a busy new years eve lol.
I don’t know about you but for me, it feels like Christmas has come so quick this year. It feels just like last week we celebrated Christmas and here we are again. I think the weather might be to blame as it has not been particularly cold and another reason could be my busy schedule with my job, home and family. I am of course thankful for another Christmas but the speed of which it has come again has really taken me by surprise.
We have been taking part in lots of festive activities and last Sunday we attended our second Christingle. My children love it because they get to learn about the true meaning of Christmas in a very simple way. Of course they love that they get to light up the candle at the and and also they get to eat the sweets after. I love that my girls have a deep understanding of why we celebrate Christmas. They know that yes we get presents but the most important present ever given to man is Jesus Christ himself amen.
My title says it’s been a minute but actually i haven’t been on here for about 7 months. Last time i was here i shared my excitement about the royal wedding and i have been meaning to pick up where i left. The thing with blogging is pace, its a fast moving world and the longer you leave it the harder it gets. Well here i am just popping by to say a great big hello.
The Royal wedding was magnificent and of course many congratulations To Prince Harry and Meghan who are now both Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Oh, and another big congratulations on their baby news too. My girls and i enjoyed watching the royal wedding on TV along with the rest of the world. We celebrated with cakes, tea and a summer picnic. The children were excited as we got to do some arts and crafts and of course i picked up these cute mugs with dogs to go with our celebrations.
A few weeks ago on St Georges day we all shared in the wonderful news of a new royal baby. The news that usually comes after the birth is the baby’s name but sometimes it is not as simple as that. Sometimes it takes a while to find a befitting name and i am sure the pressure is even more so when it is a royal baby. I was glad a few days later when it was announced on the news that the royal baby is to be called Louis Arthur Charles. It is wonderful that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose such meaningful names.
Before the royal baby was named, my colleague asked me why it was taking long to give the baby a name. I told her that naming a child is a special thing because a name is for life. My colleague gave me a strange look and said , ‘wow but they had 9 months to do that’. I told my colleague my own story about how i named my children. The first one i researched the name for 3 months before giving birth and even after birth we had a naming ceremony with our wonderful pastor. Nobody except myself and my hubby knew the name of the baby until the naming ceremony when baby was about 1 week old. With the second one again we had a naming ceremony when she was 1 week old. Both names were roughly researched and most importantly we prayed over their names. I hope i do not come come across as snobby but naming a child ridiculous names is rather selfish and disrespectful to the child. Parents need to think of their children’s future and see their names as prophecies.
A couple of years back i saw on the news that some countries around the world actually have a banned list of names. In France it is illegal to name your child nutella, strawbery, deamon and mini cooper. According to the law in France, such names can lead to bullying hence not in the best interest of the child. I know there is a huge banned list with some hilarious names but the above is just an example.
Back to my question again, and the answer would be as long as it takes to find great name.
Sorry i could not post on the day but its been a very busy Easter celebration for us here, I was actually meant to post on the 1st of April but by the time i finished doing everything i was beyond knackered. The whole celebration has been wonderful especially now that my little one have reached an age where they are so inquisitive. My 4 year old keeps telling me that Jesus went to the cross and went up to the sky and asking lots of hows and whys. I love their little funny questions as it allows room for me to explain things in a way that is age appropriate. Days before good Friday we made 2 gorgeous Easter bonnets as the girls school required all children to wear one for their Easter celebrations. I had set my sights on getting non decorated simple bonnets from the poundshop or poundworld but unfortunately they had run out. I was amazed that all the shops had run out of bonnets and some well known shops did not bother to stock any. I did manage to buy some bonnet decorations and some simple straw summer hats which we turned into bonnets. The girls and i had so much fun decorating the bonnets and even daddy helped stitch some baby chicks for us. The girls looked so sweet wearing their bonnets for school before half term and also for church on Easter Sunday.
Asides from Easter bonnets we also had chocolate eggs overload. I really wanted to treat my little ones for doing so well at school so i just went overboard with the chocolates. I organised a cheeky Easter egg hunt in the house as the weather wasn’t too great. Chocolate eggs were hidden in the dolls house, study table, rocking moose and other strange and funny parts of the house. They took their egg hunt seriously and at some point became extra competitive as their marched around the house with their pink and yellow baskets. They had sch a ball and as for me, i found a Cadburys creme egg days later in the bedroom. I did not call the girls to come and see i simply sat down quietly and enjoyed a well deserved treat hmmm it was yum….such a great find.
On Easter Saturday we made some arts and crafts which the girls enjoyed as it involved lots of cutting, sticking, gluing and of course glitter. I planned to make my own hot cross buns but i did not get the time and so i cleared out my nearest supermarket :). Easter Sunday was such a treat as the girls were all pretty in pink with their bonnets. The service was beautiful as our wonderful pastor taught us on the power of Jesus Christ Resurrection. I just soaked in the message like a thirsty tree. The word of God is indeed life and i am so glad i have the privilege to know the true meaning of the season. My children love the bunny, chocolates, baby chicks and so on but they understand that its just a little bit of fun. What makes me happy is that they know about Jesus and how much He loves us.
I received a new mobile phone over Christmas from my darling husband. I was so happy because it had been a while since i had a phone without cracks (no thanks to my girls). Being an apps expert that he is, he went through the trouble of downloading some great apps on my behalf. I am not a big techie person myself but at the same time i am loving my Bible app. Last year i fell behind on my Bible reading and became slightly sidetracked and disorganised so this year i decided to pick myself up and carry on.
The Bible app is simply amazing because it has helped me stay on top of my reading. I have used the Bible app to sign myself up for a challenge to read my Bible in one year. This is not the first time i am reading the whole Bible through. I read it through as a new believer from 2006 until 2008 (yep it took me 2 whole years). I want to read it through again because its just a great way to refresh and reboot my walk with Christ.
The challenge i am using is simple and my mobile phone prompts me too which is handy. I recommend this app to everyone plus there are lots of reading plans so it is not one a shoe fits all type of app.
World book day is one of my favourites events of the year. I love to see the excitement in my children’s faces as we scour through their favourite books to find one of their many favourite characters. For the past 2 weeks my youngest has changed her mind about her characters so many times i have lost count. First she wanted to go as a baby kangaroo (kangaroo kangaroo where are you) and then she decided she wanted to go as princess Elsa. I encouraged her to choose something different rather than Frozen and plus she has worn that costume so many times. As little as she is she went away to play and ponder and then she had a light-bulb moment. She suddenly remembered a book she purchased during the book fair week called fairy magic by Cerrie Burnell. She was so excited she came shouting, ‘mummy i will go as blue summer fairy. I was glad she made her mind up as we were only a day away to world book day.
My big girl already decided weeks in advance she would go as Violet Beauregard from Charlie and the chocolate factory by Roald Dahl. It was super easy buying her costume which was purple with a puffball top plus it came with a golden ticket and some bubblegum. She was so happy with her choice and very much into her character. I also found it rather sweet that she took her time to talk to her little sister about her character. She told her little sister that Violet likes to store her bubble gum in her ears for safe keeping . Her baby sister was not impressed and she replied, ‘well if i had lots of bubblegum i would just chew it all up ok’.
After all the preparation and horrid weather i am so happy the day went so well. It was just so lovely seeing my girls with their friends really owning their characters and having so much fun. I really need to become more organised and hopefully next time i will be more on the ball however it all depends on the children’s choices and as you all know children change their mind all the time.
I am ever so thankful to God for blessing my family and i with wonderful times together and Christmas and new is always a foodie time of year for us. As i write this i am still recovering from all the cooking i did. On Christmas day i decided to roast a large chicken which turned out absolutely delish. I have never been a big fan of turkey as i often find it rather dry so i often avoid it plus the work that goes into it. Just before the new year my husband decided to bring home not 1 but 2 massive turkeys. I was gobsmacked as he happily announced we will be having that for new years day. As i struggled to fit those big birds in my freezer i pondered to myself how i would be accomplishing the mountain task on new years day. I know that some people start cooking theirs the night before so i just braced myself to do it my way. New years day came so quickly and i started seasoning the turkey first thing and started cooking right away. I had to stay on top of things with my potatoes, veg and gravy as i dedicated too much time to the turkey. After a long day (2 hours) of cooking I was quite surprised it turned out beautifully. Everybody went back for seconds and thirds and my husband joked about how he felt as if he was eating a prehistoric bird as the drumstick looked humongous on his plate. The good thing about the mammoth task of cooking a turkey is that you can be exempt from the kitchen for at least the next 3 days and that is exactly what happened….thank God for leftovers 🙂
Last night my family and i were super excited to see the countdown to the new year. My big has been enjoying her geography lessons so it was interesting explaining to her how it was already new years day in Australia and New Zealand. We all enjoyed watching the fire works display on the news of course as i was not cuckoo or brave enough to go see it live with 2 small children. My favourite part of the evening was going to church and listening to a lovely message by my pastor.
Church is always super packed and the overflow has become an extension of the church so i never get it when news papers write about Christianity being in decline. Anyway, last night it was so packed there were 3 over flows plus a different location near Hyde Park. Church was amazing i enjoyed every bit of it. Pastor Colin preached about walking in boldness, embracing who we are in Christ and going back to basics which is our relationship with Christ. He also preached about the importance of prayer and not neglecting the word of God. Praise and worship gave me extra life. It was truly wonderful night and even better to see in the new year in the house of God. I feel so ready to grab 2018 by the hands because of my pastor’s encouraging message.
Well hello 2018 and happy new year to all. May you be truly blessed in all aspects of your lives Amen.
It has been a while since i posted anything here as i have been so busy juggling work, children, school and everything else. I may only have two hands but i am ever so thankful that i have an awesome God who holds me and and all that concerns me in His hands amen. The year has gone by so quickly and its only just sunk in that it is yet another Christmas eve. Just before bed time today the girls and i left out a glass of milk for Santa and some carrots for his reindeers. I told my girls that this year we will give Santa only 3 cookies because he is on a diet..yes he really is on a low carb diet 🙂 After we left out the treats my girls quickly went to sleep. I must say it has been the easiest bed time ever yessss. As i sat down to relax i pondered deeply on how fast this year has gone and how Christmas has taken me by surprise. Well now it’s time to stop overthinking and start enjoying because after all it is a blessed day.
