Christingle was amazing!

christingle - CopyI don’t know about you but for me, it feels like Christmas has come so quick this year. It feels just like last week we celebrated Christmas and here we are again. I think the weather might be to blame as it has not been particularly cold and another reason could be my busy schedule with my job, home and family. I am of course thankful for another Christmas but the speed of which it has come again has really taken me by surprise.

We have been taking part in lots of festive activities and last Sunday we attended our second Christingle. My children love it because they get to learn about the true meaning of Christmas in a very simple way. Of course they love that they get to light up the candle at the and and also they get to eat the sweets after. I love that my girls have a deep understanding of why we celebrate Christmas. They know that yes we get presents but the most important present ever given to man is Jesus Christ himself  amen.

Happy mother’s day to all you wonderful mothers out there :))

Call Her BlessedWow it has been ages since i blogged but could not let this day go by without popping by to say happy mother’s day to all. This beautiful journey called motherhood starts from forever and lasts forever. As well as being beautiful it is also one of the most important roles in the world because even world leaders and lawyers do not just fall from the sky. Indeed they came about because somebody chose to give them life and nurture them.

I was walking back from school drop off last week when i had a deep convo with one of the mums who also happens to be a christian. We discussed about the scripture that says ,” Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”(Mark16:15-16). You see a lot of the times people are gagging for roles in the church whilst neglecting their responsibilities as parents or sometimes undermining their roles. Some are obsessed with joining the choir, ushering or hogging the stage. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with serving but i believe we need to stop undermining our roles and find a balance. The Bible does tell us to, ‘train up a child in the way he should go’ and that backs backs up what my friend and i were discussing. We discussed how we can fit in ‘go ye into the world’ in between school runs, cooking, cleaning, homework, school project, taking care of hubby and all other things that being a full time mother entails. My friend laughed and said, ‘but your children are your number one ministry’. She is sort of right because sometimes there is that conflict that a lot of us would love to go out evangelising etc and then you have that guilt when you cannot find the time. I believe that when God wants you to go and be a missionary He will provide all that is necessary for example Valerie Shepard and her family. Likewise i do not think it is wise beating yourself up and feeling guilty that your not out there doing the ‘work’ of the Lord because, believe me ‘training up your child’ still counts as serving the Lord.

So back to the point, happy mother’s day dear mothers and me included. Whatever we are doing with our families, i pray that we would do it all as if doing it unto God. The main thing is that  we have to enjoy every seasons of our lives and who knows, perhaps one day God may send you to preach, lay hands on the sick and be the hands and feet of Christ. Saying that, it does not mean we cannot reach out in our current season. It would not hurt to share the love of Christ with fellow mums. It would not hurt at all to offer to pray for the sick or the lost. What i am trying to say is before we get the opportunity to go to a far away place…..i guess we can start wherever we are so on that note, Happy mother’s day with Love and blessings to you all xxxxxx 🙂

My daily Bible verse for the week: “Be still, and know that I am God!

imagesJesusThis week i am focusing on drawing my strength from God and learning to be still. Psalm 46: 10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” As i think about this verse i am reminded of the movie Jungle book where Mowgli and Baloo are singing ‘bare necessities. Baloo says to Mowgli, ‘ So just try and… relax. Yeah. Cool it. Fall apart in my backyard. ‘Cause let me tell you something, little britches: if you act like that bee at… Uh-uh. You’re working too hard. And don’t spend your time lookin’ around for something you want that can’t be found…

Sometimes it is easy to overwork like that bee and get tangled up in the everyday hassle and bustle of life. We buzz to the kitchen, buzz to school, buzz to pick up and drop off. We buzz to work and we buzz to church sometimes as if going round and round on a hamster wheel. Regardless of all of these things i am beginning to see that the word of God is my shield and my fortress in the midst of everything and i actually do not mind being like a busy bee as long as i know that Yahweh is the one directing my steps.

Father God i pray that you help me and anybody else reading this or searching for the truth to internalize that beautiful verse and to be still and know you are God in Jesus name Amen.

Faith school or non faith school?

schoolsThe past 1 year or so i have had to make a very important decision regarding my daughter’s education. My darling just turned 4 and in September she will be starting reception so i have had the task of visiting various schools and researching on the Ofsted website. I have always had my heart set on 1 particular faith school. It is a church of England school as that is the closest to our pentecostal denomination. This school is so lovely their website even states, ‘we learn together,we pray together’. I was fully armed with 6 choices to make because it is so difficult for school places to come by and every all parents are required to choose 6 school and also highlight their first and second choice.

I prayed about all my choices as well as talking to other mums and dads about our local schools.  I prayed that God will give my daughter the best school for her, a school which will cater to her Christian faith.  When my daughter was 6 months old we dedicated her onto the Lord and our pastors emphasised the importance of training up a child (Proverbs 22.6) and so i am keen to uphold what we have been taught. I am not here to knock non faith schools because there are some brilliant no faith schools out there but i believe so it is important to choose what is good for your child and your family.

All the faith schools required a statement from our church which our kid’s pastor was happy to provide. We then had to indicate which church we go to and how often we attend. I suppose that is a good way for the schools check out the facts. Anyway to cut the long story short we received the results today and my princess was given her second choice…we were not given our first choice because that school is oversubscribed and also siblings get priority regardless of their faith (which kind of defeats the whole faith school objective). I hear overall many children did not get their first choice and hundreds of children were not even offered a place so we are grateful to God! I was a tad bit disappointed at first but then i remembered i did not make my decision on a whim and i actually prayed for God’s best and this is what He has done so glory be to Jesus!! So that is my experience for primary school application and here are a few tips for you to consider when your time comes:

*Visit the school for open days, do not just rely on the website because when you visit a place you often get a feeling..a knowing .

*Speak to other parents who may have children in that particular school

*Check out ofsted report (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/schools/for-parents-and-carers/find-school-inspection-report )

*Pray pray pray because when you pray you hand over the whole process to God. God cares about all aspects of our lives including school applications for our children

*Ask your child what he/she thinks and what they want and do also take them with you to open days to see how they react to that environment.

Christmas…….not so merry for many Christians around the world :(

Whilst many of us enjoyed Christmas this year many around the world did not get a chance to. A car bomb exploded in Baghdad killing around 38 people and wounding many more. The bomb happened just outside a church as worshippers were leaving the service. For some Christians around the world, celebrating christmas makes then stand out like a sore thumb hence making them more of a target. More needs to be done to ensure the freedom of worship.

mama outings: LoveJos Christmas carol taking place today in London

Image

The LoveJos Christmas Carol is taking place this evening in London at St. John’s church stratford (see flyer for info). LoveJos is a charity which was set up in support of the persecuted Christians in Nigeria mainly those in the North. Please feel free to support the cause and  whether you are able to attend please try your best and dig deep in our pockets wink wink!!

Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time of the year yet for so many it is usually marred with violence because some do note have the privilege to celebrate without fear of persecution. Now unless you have been living under a rock for the past few years you would have noticed churches being bombed or set on fire is becoming an everyday occurrence in various parts of the world but Christmas day is usually a target because that is when the Christians are set apart because of their celebrations.

Please join and support the cause wherever you are and may God bless you richly Amen.
