Gospel music/artists triumphs at Grammy awards 2014 !!

Grammy

This week saw one of the biggest music awards take place. The 54th Grammy awards held on Sunday night and was presented by ‘girls just wanna have fun’ singer Cyndi Lauper. As we can expect from a  from a secular event, there were no shortage of controversy and shocking moments which i do not care to go into.

What really caught my attention and encouraged me was how well the Gospel  category did. Firstly Mandisa won her first Grammy award for her ‘Overcomer’ album .The American idol finalist was nominated for best contemporary Christian music and she quite rightly won. That is what you call an overcomer as she went from a reality tv show contestant, finalist and did not even win but then it seems God had a greater plan and it ios so inspiring to see that.

There were many other winners in the night including Tye Tribbett for best Gospel album and Tasha Cobbs who won her first Grammy for ‘break every chain’ which was nominated for the Gospel contemporary music performance.

Miss Tasha Cobbs looked dazzling in her flowing royal blue fish tail dress as she the thanked everybody for ‘taking a chance on a country girl from Jesup Georgia’.

As well as these big wins there were also other well known nominees from Matt Redman,Chris Tomlin,Matt Maher,Natalie Grant and more.

All in all i would say it was an interesting event where Gospel music really triumphed and long may this continue:)

Stellar Gospel Music Awards a great success!

29th Annual Stellar Awards - Show

The  29th annual Stellar awards took place last weekend and  was presented by Sherri Sheppherd and Rickey Smiley.  It was a dazzling night of great performances and winners and as you would expect from an awards show it was packed with jokes …inevitably one about Erica Campbell’s dress from her album cover (by the way i think she looks fab on her album cover).

The winners of the night include  Tamela Mann won a whopping 7 times in most categories including female vocalist and cd of the year for ‘best days’.  Kirk Franklin won an award for ‘take me to the King’

My fave  win for the night was Hezakiah walker who won twice , one in the traditional choir of the year category and the other in choir of the year. Having listened to ‘every praise’ only a few days ago, i think its a beautiful song and i quiet addictive too. You cannot listen to every praise without praising…the song does exactly what it says on the box so congratulations to Hezekiah Walker and Donald Lawrence for this great music.

Kirk Franklin and his wife Tammy celebrate 18 beautiful years of marriage:)

ImageSometime this week i saw on Kirk Franklin’s tweeter a retro picture (see pic) of him and his wife where he made a light joke about her collars. He wrote, ‘back in the day..ooh kill em with those collars baby happy anniversary”. I read a bit closer and i realised they have just celebrated 18 years of marriage. That is so amazing and by today’s standard 18 years of marriage is like a century so congratulations to them. Another thing i find amazing about this couple is that one would think they have just walked down the alter yesterday, it is really nice to see a loved up couple we can all look up to. May God keep them and bless them with a long fruitfulness and happy marriage.

Marriage is work and i have heard a few seasoned professionals saying how its its not for the faint hearted. I have been at it for nearly 5 years and well i cannot compare 5 years to 18 years but it is enough for me to say well done and congratulations to this wonderful couple and they should definitely write a book to help other couples…i would be the first to buy!

In the news: A nun in Italy gives birth !!!

Image

It has been reported on the daily mail today that a nun in Italy has given birth after suffering from tummy cramps. The lady in question had no idea she was pregnant . This all happened in Reiti a small Italian city where the 31 year old woman had been staying after her arrival from Salvador where she is originally from.

The lady has named her child Francesco in honour of the current pope Francis and plans to keep her baby and take good care of him. Wow this world is full of surprises and i doubt it was an immaculate conception 🙂

Everybody who know her have told of their shock including her pastor, fellow nuns and most off all herself! I am not here to judge anybody but how can one not know they are pregnant? When i am pregnant i eat like a horse and cant sleep on my fave position (my tummy). My tummy grows so big that i never catch a sight of my feet from 5 months plus until delivery so yes this is a very interesting story. All the best to the lady and her baby.

Children do say the cutest things:)

giftttttt

My 8 month old baby girl enjoys playing with her daddy and her daddy likes a bit of rough play so he would put his head near her face allowing her to pull his hair and slap him. The hair pulling part I think its clearly a learned thing no thanks to daddy whereas the slapping thing is more of a reflex thing. Anyway to cut the long story short, I was holding baby princess yesterday when she gave me a surprise slap on my nose. Her big sister who is 3 years old told her off. She said,’no smacking, that’s not nice you have to go to the corner now for 8 months’…It was so cute i had to share it with her grandmama over the phone straightaway. Grandmama was so amused she wondered how long she would get sent to the corner for (she is in her late 60s).I love these little priceless moments

I remember a few weeks ago we attended her friend Racheal’s 4th birthday party minus daddy. There was a  big match on that day and i do not even remember who was playing but my husband could not and would not miss it so he decided to stay home and we went without him. When we arrived at the party and greeted everybody i was asked where hubby was and i told them he was at home at working on the computer (he really was ). Later the birthday girl’s dad asked my daughter  where daddy was and she replied ,’his at home watching Chelsea’. This was so embarrassing and so funny at the same time but i am so glad we all laughed off the situation. 🙂

Once upon a time baby showers used to be an American thing

babyshower

Last weekend i attended my good friend’s baby shower. This was a much anticipated event as i received an invitation weeks ago plus a reminder the day before. On the day the event was suppose to to start at 4pm sharp but as most like attendees myself included were Africans..we should have been told to arrive at 1pm to ensure a 4pm arrival (lol).

This really was a lovely event. The house was brightly decorated and buzzing with music. The dining table welcomed us all with delicious treats, the best of all being pink and blue cup cakes (as baby’s sex is a not known).

The mum looked ever so elegant with her one shoulder grecian style long black dress with golden laces/glitter at the front..yes maternity fashion is big business these days. Mum to be asked all of us to join her on the dance floor and she out…

Mum to be asked all of us to join her on the dance floor and she out danced all of us.

During the party the mum to be and another friend devised 2 groups, the pink group for those who suspect its going to be a girl and the blue group for a baby boy. The 2 groups had to go head to head in answering quizzes, crosswords and so on relating to the joys of motherhood.  As the party went on i almost drifted away in my thoughts and asked my self when did baby showers become a British thing or has it always been there but of course we are only discovering it now because we are now at the age where we are married and starting families. Is having a baby shower an American tradition or is it just something everybody does. The most famous baby shower i can think of is that from father of the bride…(i am not ashamed to admit its one of my faves). There is that beautiful scene in the garden with flowers, a huge pram and storks.

Unfortunately the storks did not turn up at my friend’s baby shower (and thank goodness for that) but the main thing is she had a wonderful time as did all of us and very soon we will join her to celebrate whenever her prince or princess decides to be born.

I jokingly mentioned to my friend how odd it was that in the past lets say 3 years i have been receiving more and more baby shower invitations and she remarked yes very soon we will be celebrating thanks giving. I think she might be on to something there as we only recently had black Friday. One way or another i think it is a good thing as births and motherhood should be celebrated so i do not mind those types of traditions becoming the norm.

In the news:Amazing… little girl given 7 days extension on life support

JahisheshallliveandnotdieshalllivetodeclaretheworksofthelordThe family of 13 year old Jahi won an injunction to stop doctors from turning of their little girl’s life support machine. Jahi recently underwent a routine procedure to remove her tonsils but the operation went horribly wrong resulting in a heart attack and thereafter she was declared brain dead on the 12th December. The hospital were planing to turn off her life support and on the eleventh hour the family won the right to keep her life support machine turned on for another week. This is a brave move and i feel that God can still and will intervene on behalf of this little girl and her family. I have seen footages of the family praying outside the hospital. Prayer works and there has been many cases of people declared ‘clinically’ dead only for them to survive. We serve a good God and i pray for that goodness to be revealed in this little girl’s life. Just because the doctors say this is it, it does not necessarily mean this is it…there is always room for a miracle and i trust that God will have the last word in this situation. I would urge anybody out there reading this to intercede for Jahi and pray for God to heal her and restore her and her family. Please get on your hand and knees and pray in the name of Jesus!!! With God all things are possible
